If I were a Black kid...
I am always amazed by middle-class white people who feel that pulling oneself out of poverty is as easy as pulling up your bootstraps, studying harder, taking advantage of all the "free things" and "benefits" available to them, and succeeding in this wonderful meritocracy we supposedly live in.
